I've been playing golf for just over 1 year and my handicap is 24 and, although I get pretty contact with the ball most of the time, my shots frequently end up going to the left, on a straight line.

This usually ends up getting me in to trouble which is preventing my handicap from coming down, so any thoughts or advice would be gratefully received... the frustration is killing me and will end up with broken clubs!!!

hi there,
As you are playing the game from the past 1year i do not think their is a mistake within you.your handicap is also good. There are lots of possibilities for your mistake. Many people get habituated with a set of golf clubs and do not feel like leaving them and they hardly go for new ones.Keep trying the same shot with different golf clubs if this does not work out then there is only other chance of getting a solution. You start following the instructions given by the instructor you may have a chance of finding the mistake. The Drive or the Tee-Shot is the first Shot you take on each Hole. You can learn golf from many golf instruction articles and online sites.I will give you a site name which teaches you from basics.click on the above link.

Thanks for the comments, very much appreicated. My shots go more off-line with my shorter irons which I've been told is to do with the lie-angle of the club being incorrect for me, so I think I will take my clubs along to a Pro to get checked as they were not fitted for me when I bought them.

I have also been told by a friend (4 handicapper) that I have a tendency to 'cast' the club on my downstroke which is causing me to come 'across' the ball resulting in some shots going left, unless they fade slightly. Again, it seems that I need to work on this par of my swing. I've had a quick look at the website that you suggested and will study the coaching part in more detail this evening. Once again, thanks for the help.
