| Could somebody tell me what exactly is point of entry on a water hazard, is it
A) Where the ball lands in the water.
B) Where the ball enters the hazard area marked by red or yellow posts.

| | The point of entry is where the ball crosses hazard boundary prior to entering the hazard, and not it's final position, but where you take your drop from depends on whether it's a water hazard (yellow posts) or lateral hazard (red posts) which I'll explain in the example below. Consider a green with a lake in front of it which is marked with yellow posts all round (not typical, I know, but easy for this example) and you play your shot over the lake which hits the bank on the other (just beyond the hazard) then rolls back in to the lake. In this situation you would need to replay your shot from where you last played ensuring your ball is in line with the flag and point of entry (on your side), but you can go back as far as you like. However, if the lake was marked as a laterel hazard (even if the red posts were only on the greenside, where you ball rolled in) then your point of entry would be on the other side where your ball rolled in. You would then take your penalty drop from the other side from the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. Hope this helps. |
