| hi ya i had very serious shanking problem one of the worst things to do to someone who as serious shanks is to tell them to realese the club head quicker, this only makes it worse much worse. i nearly gave the game up because a teaching pro told me to do this and i must fire my legs through has i have a arm swing, i got to the stage where i could not hit 1 out of 100 balls without shanking i found the cure myself after 3 months of doing what i was told by the pro i went back to square one and what i am going to tell you now is also a cure for over the top, not for all players of cause but give it a go. what is actually happening is on the down swing your back leg and hip as come through and as taken the space that you hands should be in. good players call it being trapped but they can usually still get the club face on the ball and recover,
this causes the club head to come out wards instead of down the line and with the longer cubs driver woods long irons you can come over the top and have a big slice or pull hook sometimes very low trajectory, drills to help, take slow swings making sure you dont fire your back leg and hip on the down swing ,let your hands come through and the club pull you to your full finish you will soon start to hit solid shots out the middle of the club one more drill is legs together 3 quarter swing just use your arms concentrating on bringing you arms down keeping your lower half quiet these drills will help the bad shanker take your time with drills and dont give up after one or to failed attempts dont worry about being told you have a arm swing i hit my driver over 300 yards regular and my 7 iron goes over 170 not bad for a arm swing ive just fired 2 of my best rounds both 77 and i 3 putted the last should have been 75 hope this helps oneone to enjoy this great frustrating game all the best |
