| Hi all,
Yesturday I hit a shot that ended up next to a redstaked hazard, but not in it. There was a fence however in the red staked hazard that interfered with my stroke. I think I can take an unplayable lie under penalty of a stroke and get relief.
Are there any other options?
Unfortunately I tried to hit it where it was and altering my swing. Ended up with triple bogey. |

| Hi Happs,
Because your ball was not in the hazard you were allowed free relief from an immovable obstruction interfering with your area of swing. Rule 24-2. b.
You should find the NEAREST point of relief and drop within 1 club length of that point, not nearer the hole.
No penalty.
ATB,

| Won't that depend on the status of the fence? I'm thinking in terms of:
Obstructions - any man-made object, except:
(1) objects defining out of bounds
(2) any part of an immovable man-made object which is out of bounds; and
(3) any construction declared by the Committee in the Local Rules to be an integral part of the course.
If none of these exceptions apply to the fence in this case, then I agree that free relief is available. Otherwise, it's relief under penalty or play it as it lies, imo.
Chocks away!

| What the Cardinal says is absolutely right of course - however ...
A fence defining the boundary of the course, or a fence defining an OoB boundary of the course would not be within the margins of a WH.
It could be an internal OoB, but it would be highly unlikely to be put down the middle of a WH.
Although I suppose it is possible.
And it could be deemed to be an integral part of the course, but again it would be highly unlikely to declare an object within the margins of a WH as integral, since players in the hazard would have to take relief from that hazard under penalty anyway.
36 holes of golf today - excellent!
Cheers all,
SH.

| None of those exceptions applied so looks like I was entitled to relief. A shame because I shot my best score ever, 88. Looks like it could've been at least an 86.
On a side note, having shot my best score ever at the local public course, I was full of confidence and marched over to Spyglass hill, where I was promptly handed my arse. 105 from the whites. |
