I played in a society event last week at the Kendleshire in South Gloucestershire where a few of our society members opted to take a buggy, rather than walk.

On the third hole I noticed that our playing partners buggy had a new GPRS system fitted which told them how far they had left to the hole. Now I know that this information can be had from course planners, but I was under the impression that an electronic gadget such as this is regarded, in competitive golf, as an 'outside aid' and therefore illegal.

I brought this up afterwards in the clubhouse and, not surprisingly, it sparked off a very heated debate. What I'd like to know is whether or not this is allowed in competitive golf.... any thoughts/opinions/views would be most welcome.

I think it is the club that decides whether you can use them or not.

Hi there, sorry if this is out of date but you are probably aware now that GPS gadgets are legal, as the R & A issued some rule change some time ago....in fact i'm just off tomorrow to buy one.
