| Mannings Heath is a gem of a club set deep in the Sussex Countryside about four miles south of Horsham, 20 minutes from the Pease Pottage junction of the M23.
There are two courses, the Waterfall and The Kingfisher, both with distinctly different characters. Unfortunately The Waterfall is members only, however you can get round this by booking a 'Corporate Package' where you book a four ball and a meal. Considering you will probably eat in the clubhouse anyway it should not make much difference to the overall cost. It is well worth the effort to play this superb Course.
The Waterfall winds through traditional English woodland countryside with streams, ponds and brooks crossing the course ready to catch any wayward shots. About two thirds of the holes would be 'Feature' holes on just about any other course. It is quite hilly so the more senior golfers may benefit from a buggy.
The Kingfisher is a more open 'Parkland' track and is generally more forgiving than its older sister. Anyone with a 22 plus handicap would do well to start here rather than the Waterfall Course.
The Clubhouse is a traditional Manor House but is not too stuffy, helped by youthful bar staff and proshop assistants, and the locals are friendly.
The overriding impression from both courses is the peace and quiet. Playing the Kingfisher you only see one other building (apart from the club buildings) all the way round and the nearest main road is several miles away.
Only criticism is that there are no refreshment facilities (1/2 way hut) on the Kingfisher Course, so make sure you have refreshments with you.
Any other views welcome!!!
