If my ball goes into water or out of bounds off the tee how do I take my second shot. Do I get to tee up again or do I have to hit the ball off the ground.

Hi Bon Bon,
You get to tee the ball up again, this is the Rule.

Rule 20-5. Making Next Stroke from Where Previous Stroke Made

When a player elects or is required to make his next stroke from where a previous stroke was made, he must proceed as follows:

a. On the Teeing Ground: The ball to be played must be played from within the teeing ground. It may be played from anywhere within the teeing ground and may be teed.

Hi Bon bon,

Also bear in mind that if your ball goes in to a water hazard you have the option of playing your second shot  (with a one shot penalty thereby playing your third) from the water hazard, which is obviously an advantage as you gain the yardage from the first shot instead of having to play from the tee again.  Depening on whether it is a Water hazard or Lateral hazard will determine where you can drop your ball to play your next shot.

Shawe: thanks for your reply to Bon bon's question.

Hi Bon Bon,
Good luck with that, once it's in your blood, it is very, very addictive.
To get you going on the Rules I would recommend to anybody the R&A Golf Rules Illustrated book.
It is brilliantly done and dead easy to understand.
The latest editions are about £15.
But you can pick up new copies of the previous edition for about a fiver on Amazon.
Knowing the basic stuff well, will always stand you in good stead on the course.
All the best,
SH.
