| If you thought you ball had gone into a bunker and then when you got to the bunker you hit a ball out. On going back to your golf trolley you see you ball which had not entered the bunker at all. What is the ruling on this.

| Bill,
If you make a stroke at a wrong ball it is a 2 shot penalty (Strokeplay). See Rule 15-3b.
The shot, or shots, if it is more than one, you make at the wrong ball do not count - BUT you must go back and play the correct ball - (or, if for example your original ball is lost, you must proceed under the Rules).
If you don't, and you tee off at the next hole you are disqualified.
I hope this helps.
ATB,
SH.

| Just to add, up until 1st Jan 2008 there would have been no penalty, as you were not allowed to lift to identify your ball in a hazard. since 2008 you can can identify a ball in a hazard.
